With Cymene Howe and Dominic Boyer

In 2014 Oddur Sigurðsson glaciologist announced the death of Ok jökull. One of Icelands smallest but one of the most commonly known glacier, just about an hours drive from Reykjavík. This got the attention of anthropologists at Rice University, Cymene Howe and Dominik Boyer and they asked me to write a text to commemorate the Ok Glacier. The Ok Glacier Memorial was placed on the mountain top in 2019 and it became a viral sensation.  In August 2019 news of the memorial went viral eventually being covered by BBC, CNN, MSNBC, The Washington Post, The Economist, Der Spiegel, and the Associated Press among over 10,000 media outlets across the world. In October 2019, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti read aloud the text of the Okjökull plaque when he became Chairperson of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group. I wrote this text here for the Guardian and I went to visit the site with the BBC.
